Artist Residency & Creative Retreat
Visitor Center Artist Camp is an Artist Residency site in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, nestled between rural townships, abandoned mines, and the vast wilderness of the Ottawa National Forest. We explore creative practices influenced by the surrounding natural environment, and focus on sustainability and self-sufficiency.
Sign up for our:
Local Clay Workshop to immerse yourself in your process, hand-harvesting and firing the local clay on site,
The Woodcrafts Workshop to learn traditional timber-framing, wood-turning, and furniture-making techniques from local masters and craftspeople,
Or propose an Independent Project that can be supported by our wilderness setting, environmental focus, and adventurous attitude.
From the casual craftsperson or nature-lover looking for a creative retreat away from the noise of the city, to the emerging artist looking to learn new skills and make connections, or the advanced artist looking to step out of their normal routine and experiment with new materials and techniques, the VCAC is a unique opportunity to step back from busy daily life and connect deeply with your materials, your process, and your environment.
