Roderick Sawyer

Roderick Sawyer is a Southside-based creative that combines the hoarding, note-taking, spur-of-the-moment, process-based tendencies of a writer and mashes them together with the intimacy captured behind his camera lens as a photographer. Sawyer likes to see his work as a way to collage life, collecting important elements of various experiences, and mixing them together in a way that seeks to explore how artist pay attention to context and to personal narrative. While Sawyer tends to use photography and writing the most, he also uses videography, painting, podcasting, and whatever other mediums he can get his hands on to help tell a story. Recently, Sawyer completed an artist residency with Arquetopia in Puebla, Mexico (July 19'-August 19'), where he was able to explore the dynamics of the graffiti, photography, linguistics, and pursue his lifelong passion of learning the Spanish language.
