Starving Artist is Chicago Artists’ Coalition’s annual benefit that pairs the city’s most inspiring visual artists with its most innovative culinary talent. For this year’s event, Starving Artist will offer a high-energy and interactive evening where attendees will engage directly with the creative environment of unique art and food installations.

Redefining the age-old concept of the “starving artist,” CAC’s event puts four local artists in the spotlight, pairing each with a like-minded chef. Their assignment: inspire each other to create both edible “installations” to be enjoyed by the crowd and new works of art, which will be auctioned off the night of the event.

FEATURED ARTIST & CHEF PAIRINGS:

Artist Laura Letinsky with Food Preservationist Tara Lane of Jane Addams Hull-House Museum
Artist Jeanne Dunning with Executive Chef Jared Van Camp of Nellcote
Artist Erik Peterson with Chef de Cuisine Erling Wu-Bower of Avec (formerly of Publican Quality Meats)
Artist Jenny Kendler with Executive Chef Beverly Kim of Bonsoirée

All proceeds from Starving Artist support CAC’s mission and programs, including a new “Starving Artist Grant” funded in part with a portion of ticket sales. The grant will provide critical unrestricted support for a local Chicago artist, and be distributed in Spring 2013.

Last year’s inaugural Starving Artist event featured the following artist/chef pairings: painter Richard Hull with Stephanie Izard (Girl & the Goat); sculptor Lauren Brescia with Hilary Blanchard-Rikower (one sixty blue); painter Tim Anderson with Koren Grieveson (Avec); and painter Judy Ledgerwood with Randy Zweiban (Province). The event raised more than $20,000 for Chicago Artists’ Coalition.

This year, each of the four pairs’ creations — both edible and aesthetic — will be staggered throughout the evening, introduced via a performance processional byThe Power of Cheer along with live music and unfolding aesthetics, all orchestrated by local architecture and branding firm, weetu. Cocktails, beer and wine will flow freely throughout the evening, alongside a series of food installations to complement the artist/chef offerings.
