Margaret Boylan

Nominated by Northern Illinois University

I draw on geology and geography for their organic and amorphous abstract possibilities. I focus on land forms and loosely on architecture because I’m heavily influenced by the exterior and interior spaces I pass through. Landscape always seems to amplify the viewer’s state of mind, and interior space seems to reflect it back. I’m interested in the relationship between interior and exterior space, by extension public and private space. More than anything my work is about a tactile love of form and material and a constantly shifting fixation with color.
