HATCH Projects

Mara Baker

Mara Baker's work explores the interplay between the real and the representational, often using tactile materials that reference the language of formal painting.

The material and inspiration for her paintings and site-specific installations comes from by-products of other failed or abandoned works generated in her studio. Through its multiple mediums and reincarnations, Baker's work reflects upon the role of intuition, loss and materiality.

Baker obtained her MFA in 2007 from Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA in 2005 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
