Park Schreck Gallery is proud to announce the upcoming show Symphonic featuring work by Rebecca Moy and Mark MacKinnon. Opening reception will be Friday, December 9th from 7–10pm. Work will be on display through January 30th.

Rebecca Moy’s abstract paintings are highly dynamic and multi-layered. Her forms are bound by energy, like clusters of matter or bursts of music. Rebecca’s complex color arrangements and compositions are ripe for long periods of contemplation.

Mark MacKinnon creates landscape photography that is extremely site-specific. He travels to remote shorelines to get the perfect blend of seashells, sand color, and light quality. Traveling all over the United States, Mark covers a multitude of climates and terrains, making for a truly diverse body of work.

Park Schreck Gallery finds talented emerging artists and connects them with buyers who are looking for original works of art. Amazing art, great value.

Being Human shows us what it is to “be human” through the eyes of 65 artists from around the country. The art depicts imagery, stories, and situations that are drawn from the human experience. The exhibit inspires, provokes, and challenges the viewer to relate to the imagery in some way and consider what it means to be human.

Being Human has been one of the most successful exhibits in Union Street Gallery history. This exhibit was widely attended and well received by the community, artists, and art professionals. The positive feedback has been so overwhelming that we have added a closing reception for this exhibit.

Join us Saturday, November 12, from 7-10 pm to celebrate the closing of this outstanding exhibit with spoken word and poetry. All artists and poets are welcome to come and share their words at the open mic.

This event is free and open to everyone. Open mic starts at 7:30 pm

Lion VS Gorilla is a Chicago-based gallery concept with a mission of encouraging collaboration, fostering community, and challenging barriers between artists and viewers. We believe that art should be rowdy, that people should fight for it, and that viewing should never be passive.

For our third show, we are presenting what may be one of the only all-neon group shows in Chicago. Central to /// is the way that light (or lack of light) can create, inform, and shape environment. This will be done through the neon art, an interactive light installation, and the audience members themselves (YOU.) There will be three DJ’s, a set by Space Cabin, drinks, and some surprises. Part of the proceeds will go to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Light Lab and its mission to nurture new work in this underutilized material. SAIC’s Light Lab is one of only two such neon studios in a U.S. academic institution. Opportunities to create and view neon art are limited, highlighting the importance of showing this work. Come show your support and come prepared to dance your little heart out.

Oh, and also, there will be a bouncy castle.

FEATURED ARTISTS:
John Bannon, Keith Lemley, JiMaoC4, Hochul Shin, and Dave Sharma

We hope to see you there.

XOXO,
Team Lion VS Gorilla

11/12/11, a Saturday in the month of November
Fulton Street Collective, 2000 W. Fulton (Fulton at Damen)
$5 suggested donation, part of the proceeds to benefit SAIC’s Light Lab

“Many of the artists in this exhibition show us that, although a unique point of view is required to rise above the ubiquitous and mediocre glut of body images we constantly navigate, the challenge is not about speaking with style, it’s about speaking truthfully. That’s what I was looking for when I juried these works. Not hip-ness, not style. Just voices that rang out (or whispered) with authenticity, audible above the constant empty visual din of our culture.

…I was touched, even moved, by a number of the works in this exhibition. I’m pleased that Union Street Gallery has provided a professional venue in which these voices can be heard in a physical space. It’s good to be reminded of what it means to be human ”

- Dan Addington,
Director of the Addington Gallery, Chicago.

Join us, Friday, October 21, from 6-9 pm, as we celebrate this excellent showing of contemporary figurative work from across the nation. 65 artists representing 21 different states are exhibiting painting, drawing, print, digital media, mixed media, fiber art, and sculpture. Reception is FREE and open to the public.

Awards and recognition will be presented at the reception. Juror Dan Addington and many of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance to engage the public.

BLUE SKY PROJECT OF DAYTON, OHIO SEEKS ARTIST’S PROPOSALS FOR 2012 SUMMER RESIDENCY.

CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS: VISUAL ARTISTS, FILMMAKERS, TECH-ARTISTS, CHOREOGRAPHERS, MUSICIANS, WRITERS, PERFORMANCE ARTISTS AND PEOPLE WORKING IN OTHER CREATIVE MEDIA SHOULD APPLY.

Blue Sky Project is a summer experience that empowers professional artists and Dayton-area teens to collaborate and build community through the creation of ambitious and meaningful works of contemporary art and performance.

As one of five Blue Sky Project Artists-In-Residence, you will cross-pollinate with other practicing artists, collaborate with teens, expand your ideas and add artistic breadth and depth to the Dayton community.

Relocated in 2009 to Ohio from our original location in Illinois, artists gather for eight weeks from mid-June to mid August at the University of Dayton, located 2 miles from downtown Dayton. Monday – Thursday, from 10-3:30 are devoted to intensive collaborations between each individual artist and a small group of six to eight local teen participants, culminating in a final exhibition. Artists-in-Residence invent the remaining structure, working together or individually on projects. Our hope is that the projects will seep out, intervene, enhance and impact the community.

Your recent studio practice and new ideas should provide the foundation for your activities. Because of the collaborative nature of Blue Sky Project, your project must have an open-ended structure. Your project must be achievable in eight weeks, within a $1,000 budget (excluding final exhibition expenses) and must engage others in its articulation and production. The rest is up to you. Previous projects have included: sculptural sound installation, video installation, performance, musical composition, dance installation, 2D visual-art and photography, self-published magazines, and site-specific interventions.

Application deadline is January 16, 2012. To learn more about Blue Sky Project, see previous work and backgrounds of past resident artists, and to download our Call for Proposals, please visit http://www.blueskydayton.org
