“The smallest things in life are often what connect us as human beings,” artist Rebecca Kinkead declares. Kinkead and her body of new works will make their Chicagoland debut during a solo exhibition at Judy A Saslow Gallery, located at 300 W. Superior, on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 5 to 8 PM.

Kinkead reveals the lingering beauty of her works through the use of a thoughtful technique and her intuitive portrayal of the collective human experience. She is a composer of personal recall and borrowed memories, transmitting ambiguous dreamy figures intended to encourage the viewer to apply their own history to each piece. These calm moments of shared experiences allow us to feel united through feelings of anticipation, innocence, triumph, and tenderness.

Kinkead adopts a layering and tearing-down process using paint and wax allowing the composition to emerge slowly, as the memories wash over the audience. Figures ripen into being as if nurtured by a primal stew of color and texture. The paintings possess a multi-dimensional quality that reflects the artist’s original training as a ceramicist. She continues to be inspired by her rural Vermont surroundings, where she lives with her husband and their four dogs.

Kinkead’s solo exhibition of new works, Innocence Revisited, will remain on display through October 30th.
