De-mystifying the Art Critic – January 21, 1-3 pm
De-mystifying the Art Critic surfaced out of a conversation with contemporary, emerging Chicago artists and intends to define the current climate of art criticism and break down the relationship between artist and art critic. Representing local and international, print and web-based publications, this dynamic panel (Duncan MacKenzie , Lane Relyea, Lori Waxman, and James Yood) moderated by BOLT artist-in- residence Stacia Yeapanis will speak to both the theoretical and practical considerations of art criticism for both art writers and artists.
De-mystifying the Art Critic will take place on January 21, 2012 from 1-3pm at Chicago Artists’ Coalition, 217 North Carpenter.

The International Streaming Festival 6th Edition – Online Now
The Streaming Festival 6th Edition is curated and sponsored by the isfth foundation, The Hague, The Netherlands, from December 1 to 18, 2011. This online international exhibit includes Video Artists, and for the first time this year, also 2D Artists. I’m pleased that my Digital Gothic series of cityscape photos were selected, and hope you visit online – just a click away. Over 30 2D artists are participating, as well as many video and sound artists.
My Digital Gothic series includes oil painting and photography of the Gothic Revival architecture on the University of Chicago Main Quadrangle, including architectural gems like Bond Chapel and Botany Pond, an Olmstead design. My photographic art uses images of related Gothic architectural details, like gargoyles, tracery and turrets, which are manipulated to create unusual lighting, colors, and jumps in color gradation. This provides a dramatic modern, photographic presentation of this century-old architectural order in such a way that the order is more readily comprehended and appreciated by the general viewer.

Lillstreet Art Center established their Artist in Residence Program in 2004 to benefit their student community, as well as the individual artist-in-residence. Each Lillstreet artist-in-residence is asked to donate one artwork to Lillstreet at the end of their residency which we auction off to help benefit the future residents of the Lillstreet Artist-in-Residence Program. The money raised from the auction will be used to benefit future artists in residence and purchase items such as display cases, equipment or scholarships for our program. Our on-line art auction will run from December 5th – 12th. To see the artworks up for auction and to find out more about our program, please visit:
