Eric Wall, Betwixt & Between #4, 2012, Mixed media on fabric, 36” x 24”

BOLT Resident Eric Wall presents Betwixt & Between, a solo exhibition that dismantles and re-imagines the possibilities of painting through large freestanding and small scale works made from collaged fabric.

“Betwixt & Between” is best described as a liminal state, a midway position, neither one thing nor the other which is filled with ambiguities and contradictions. The works in this exhibition occupy this middle ground and challenge the historical conceptions of painting.  Large freestanding paintings will simultaneously act as objects, sculpture, collage, installation, and decoration as they are successively moved and re-installed within the exhibition space.  The compositions and materials of these works, which reference domestic and interior settings, explore painting and architecture contemporary concerns within the expanded field.

Born 1979. Eric Wall is multi-disciplinary artist who has lived in Germany, Sweden and currently resides in Chicago. He has exhibited paintings, sculpture, photography, video, and installation art in the US, Germany, and Sweden. His one person exhibitions include shows at the BOLT Project Space, Chicago, Villavägen Sju Galleri, Sweden, ISM gallery, Denver, and Colorado State University.
